The Crossed Swords Pipes & Drums

About us The Crossed Swords Pipes & Drums has been founded in 2007 by General Major R.A.M.S. Melvin, CB, OBE, and his personal piper, D. Moir. In the meaning of international understanding, the Crossed Swords represent the idea of a unified Europe. It currently includes musicians from Britain, Denmark, Germany, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Belgum, North Ireland, Scotland, and also the United States of America. The Crossed Swords Pipes & Drums are closely related to and continuingly supported by the British Army. Also after the transfer of authority to Major General John McN R Henderson, the band still uses the facilities of the British Forces Germany as its basis for regular training weekends. In honour of General Major Melvin's former regiment, the Royal Engineers, the tartan MacDonnell of Keppoch Ancient has been selected for the band uniform. Pipe Major D. Johnston , a graduated former Pipe Major of the British Army, is in charge of musical direction. Thanks to his valuable expertise, he formed the band to a tattoo band that despite its short history already can look back on successful participation in internationally renowned military music events such as Spasskaya Bashnya in Moscow 2010 and 2012 and the world-famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2011 and 2015 in Scotland. The most recent event has been the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo  in August 2015. The band has successfully performed there and has been invited again to participate in 2017. In 2013 and 2014 the band took part in the first ever outdoor Tattoo event held at Londonderry in Northern Ireland
